لاnot أُشرِكُI share with الجَديَthe kid فيin دَرٍّmilk يَعيشُit lives بِهِon it
وَلاnor أَروعُI frighten بَناتِdaughters of الوَحشِthe wild beasts وَالضانِand the sheep
I do not take a share of the milk on which the kid lives.
Nor do I frighten the daughters of wild beasts and sheep.
وَلاnor أَقولُI say لِجارٍof a neighbor لَمhas not يَجِئcommitted خَطَأًa wrong
إِنif كانَhe had يَوماًone day بِحُسنِthrough the goodness of الفِعلِthe deed أَرضانيhe pleased me
Nor do I say of a neighbor, “He has done no wrong,”
if he had once pleased me with his good conduct.
لَوif يَنطِقُspeaks السَيفُthe sword نادىit cried out لَيسَthere is no ليfor me عَمَلٌaction
إِذاwhen قَضىHe decreed مالِكُthe Master of الأَفلاكِthe celestial spheres أَنضانيHe unsheathed me
Were the sword to speak, it would cry: “No action is mine;
when the Master of the celestial spheres decrees, He unsheathes me.
مَتىwhenever أَرادَHe willed فَصَفحايَthen my two sides اللَذانِwhich (dual) هُماthey both

Whenever He wills, my two sides, which are
a sea of destruction, are two pools among the pools of death.
وَإِنand if كَهِمتُI grew blunt فَأَمرُthen the command of اللَهِGod أَكهَمَنيit blunted me
وَإِنand if مَضَيتُI cut keenly فَأَمرُthen the command of اللَهِGod أَمضانيit sharpened me
And if I grow blunt, God's command has blunted me;
and if I cut keenly, God's command has sharpened me.”
