    If she climbs onto her roof terrace and you see her

    speaking one day in secret to her neighbor,

    وَقُل تِلكَ عَنَسٌ حَلَّ راعٍ هِجارَها

    then hasten to break with her and forsake intimacy with her;

    and say, "That is a sturdy she-camel whose hobble a herdsman has untied."

    And if she argues over a son of hers or a daughter

    dear to her, then deal gently with her and give up quarreling with her.

    If one day you wish to wed a freeborn woman

    from among the people, choose her by her kin and lineage.

    For some of them bring their husbands profit,

    and some bring their traders news of loss.
