Do not sleep upon the saddles, for
Do not sleep upon your saddles, for it is only
the stars are aimed at only with a wakeful eye.
The stars that are pelted with glances of the wakeful.

My fortune did not cry, 'Help, Saʿd!' in battle;
My fortune did not leave me at peace in the fray,
rather, through the days it cried, 'Help, Muqāʿis!'
But cried in the days, "O sluggard!"

Death has an appointed term; its hour is not hastened
Death has a limit which is not brought nigh
by the points of white swords or the points of spears.
By white breasts or breast of mourners.
