لاdo not تُلحِقَنِّيَimpute to me مَيناًa lie إِنif نَطَقتُI spoke بِهِwith it
لا تُلحِقَنِّيَ مَيناً إِن نَطَقتُ بِهِ
إِنَّindeed الغَريبَthe stranger إِذwhen أَلحَقتَهُyou attached him لَحِقاhe became attached
إِنَّ الغَريبَ إِذ أَلحَقتَهُ لَحِقا
Do not impute a lie to me if I utter it;
for a stranger, once you attach him, becomes attached.
أَمّاas for الجَمادُinanimate matter فَإِنّيso indeed I بِتُّI have come to أَغبِطُهُenvy it
أَمّا الجَمادُ فَإِنّي بِتُّ أَغبِطُهُ
إِذsince لَيسَdoes not يَعلَمُknow إِمّاwhether آدَgrew strong أَوor مُحِقاwas annihilated
إِذ لَيسَ يَعلَمُ إِمّا آدَ أَو مُحِقا
As for inanimate matter, I have come to envy it,
since it does not know whether it grows strong or is annihilated.

Aloeswood does not feel the fire that has taken hold
within it, nor does the tawny musk of Dārīn when crushed.
