Do not honor my body when I am overtaken

by death's calamity, for the body has no merit.

Like a cloak, it was in demand among wearers,

until its freshness faded and it would no longer sell.

Our souls were wronged; those are their dwellings—

ruins, emptied of grudges and envy.

Bury it before decay sets in, for it is

a body that decays when its warmth is lost.

Do not envy a man for what he has attained,

even if he passes the night as men's master, himself ruled by none.

For the calamities of time spare neither

the stars' Eagle, nor al-Simak, nor the Lion.
