لَوif كانَتِwere الخَمرُwine حِلّاًlawful ماnot سَمَحتُI would permit بِهاwith it
لِنَفسِيَto myself الدَهرَever لاneither سِرّاًsecretly وَلاnor عَلَناopenly
Were wine lawful, I would not permit it
to myself, ever—neither secretly nor openly.
فَليَغفِرِso may He forgive اللَهُGod كَمhow often تَطغىoverstep bounds مَآرِبُناour desires
وَرَبُّناand our Lord قَدindeed أَحَلَّhas made lawful الطَيِّباتِgood things لَناfor us
So may God forgive—how often our desires overstep!
And our Lord has made good things lawful for us.
