And time was a vessel, deserving no praise
In the judgment of minds, nor any blame.

And I think the right-crossing ostrich called out,
Announcing the tribe's departure in the desert of Zamm.

Yet not all of them possess venom.

For they were fashioned for rending and biting,
Just as fire was fashioned to grow.

A light unseen by eyes blind from birth,
And speech lost in the ears of the deaf.

Nor in Adha, nor at the pool of Khumm.

For the sake of claiming lineage in the lands of Qum.

Preparing mutilation for the high-bridged nose.

For harming you—then suckle a snake and embrace it!

Had you been rightly guided, you would not have given drink to a fetus,
Nor borne a newborn, nor been troubled.

Your rising from childbed with a premature child, not fully formed.

You asked about the truths, though they are a secret,
And your informant fears that you will spread the word.

While a decree from its Lord keeps it hidden?

Which a concealer has hidden from the ignorant.

And the name was invoked when a base fellow poured out water,
Keeping his eye on Paradise, lest he omit the name.

In a deep sea of people's abundant error.

To excellence in worship and humble servitude.

Dearer to you than either maternal or paternal uncle.

For a people beneath a green, pitch-dark sky.

As though swimming through the depths of a sea.
