If wealth increases your poverty and need

For those who amass it, then wealth itself is poverty.

Have you not seen that a king cannot endure

In his rule unless his army is a burden?

A dove follows the traces of the meadows,

And among her pursuits, pecking delights her.

    فَما شَعَرَت حَتّى أُتيحَ لَها صَقرُ

    She means to take flight, then turns back out of desire;

And before she knew it, a falcon came her way,

Though her mother had warned her yesterday of its evil,

And that death roams the very ground she roams.

And whoever's hour comes one day—blindness afflicts his eyes,

And in his mind is weakness, and in his hearing, deafness.
