By your life, I have never left the ascent of a hill
Of thought without scaling its heights.

The least of the wrongs beautiful women commit is self-display,
Showing the eye their jewelry and their henna.
فَإِنso if أَنتَyou عاشَرتَyou consort with الكَعابَthe nubile maiden فَصادِهاthen humor her

So if you consort with a nubile maiden, then humor her;
And seek her favor, and beware her anger.

For how often she has risen early to give her husband the bitterest draught
Of laurel, while giving her lover her sweet saliva.
وَإِنَّand indeed حِبالَthe cords of العَيشِlife ماnot عَلِقَتclung بِهاto them

And indeed, the cords of life have never been grasped
By a living hand without its fearing they might snap.
