مَضىpassed زَمانيmy time وَتَقَضّىand ended المَدىthe span
فَلَيتَنيso would that I وُفِّقتُhad been guided aright فيin ذاthis الزُمَينthe brief time
My time has passed, and my span is spent.
If only I had been guided aright in this brief time.
أَرزَمتِmoaned النابُthe aged she-camel وَعارَضتُهاand I answered her
فَلِيَعجَبِso let him marvel السامِعُthe listener لِلمُرزَمَينat the two moaners
The aged she-camel moaned, and I answered her;
so let the listener marvel at the two moaners.
أَمطَرَناsent rain upon us اللَهُGod بِإِحسانِهِthrough His bounty
لاnot أَنسُبُI attribute الغَيثَthe rain إِلىto المِرزَمَينthe two Mirzam stars
God has sent us rain through His bounty;
I do not attribute the rain to the two Mirzam stars.
لَيتَwould that دُموعيmy tears بِمِنىًat Mina سُيِّلَتwere made to flow
لِيَشرَبَso that they might drink الحُجّاجُthe pilgrims مِنfrom زَمزَمَينtwo Zamzam wells
Would that my tears had been made to flow at Mina,
so that the pilgrims might drink from two Zamzam wells.
