ثَلاثُthree مَراتِبٍranks مَلَكٌan angel رَفيعٌlofty
وَإِنسانٌand a human وَجيلٌand a race غَيرُother than إِنسِhumankind
Three ranks: a lofty angel,
And a human, and a race other than humankind.
فَإِنso if فَعَلَdoes الفَتىthe young man خَيراًgood تَعالىhe rises
إلىto قِنسِthe kind of المَلائِكِthe angels خَيرِthe best of قِنسِkinds
So if a young man does good, he rises
To the kind of angels, the best of kinds.
وَإِنand if خَفَضَتهُbrings him low هِمَّتُهُhis aspiration تَهاوىhe plunges
إِلىto جِنسِthe kind of البَهائِمِthe beasts شَرِّthe worst of جِنسِkinds
And if his aspiration brings him low, he plunges
To the kind of beasts, the worst of kinds.
