أَرى الناسَ شَرّاً مِن زَمانٍ حَواهُمُ

أَرى الناسَ شَرّاً مِن زَمانٍ حَواهُمُ

فَهَل وُجِدَت لِلعالَمينَ حَقائِقُ

فَهَل وُجِدَت لِلعالَمينَ حَقائِقُ

I see people as worse than the age that encompassed them.

So have any truths been found for humankind?

وَقَد كَذَبوا عَن ساعَةٍ وَدَقيقَةٍ

وَقَد كَذَبوا عَن ساعَةٍ وَدَقيقَةٍ

وَما كَذَبَت ساعاتُهُم وَالدَقائِقُ

وَما كَذَبَت ساعاتُهُم وَالدَقائِقُ

And indeed they have lied about an hour and a minute,

yet their hours and the minutes have not lied.

إِن لَم يَكُن لي بِالشَقيقَةِ مَنزِلٌ

إِن لَم يَكُن لي بِالشَقيقَةِ مَنزِلٌ

فَلا طُهِرَت عَزّاؤُها وَالشَقائِقُ

فَلا طُهِرَت عَزّاؤُها وَالشَقائِقُ

If I have no dwelling in al-Shaqiqah,

then may neither its hard ground nor the hollows between dunes be cleansed.
