أَياO أَرضُearth فَوقَكِupon you أَهلُthe people of الذُنوبِsins
أَيا أَرضُ فَوقَكِ أَهلُ الذُنوبِ
فَهَلso is there بِكِin you مِنfrom ذاكَthat هَمٌّworry وَبثand sorrow
فَهَل بِكِ مِن ذاكَ هَمٌّ وَبث
O earth, upon you dwell the people of sin;
does that, then, bring you worry and sorrow?
وَقَدand indeed زَعَمواthey have claimed النارَthe fire مَبعوثَةًsent forth
وَقَد زَعَموا النارَ مَبعوثَةً
تُهَذِّبُpurges مِمَّنfrom those who عَلَيكِare upon you الخَبَثthe impurity
تُهَذِّبُ مِمَّن عَلَيكِ الخَبَث
And they have claimed that fire is sent forth
to purge the impurity from those upon you.
وَسِيّانِand equal are ماضٍone departed قَصيرُshort in المَدىspan
وَسِيّانِ ماضٍ قَصيرُ المَدى
وَآخَرُand another باقٍremaining طَويلُlong in اللَبَثduration of stay
وَآخَرُ باقٍ طَويلُ اللَبَث
And equal are one departed, whose span was short,
and another who remains, whose stay is long.
وَخَلقُكِand your creation مِنby رَبِّناour Lord حِكمَةٌwisdom
وَخَلقُكِ مِن رَبِّنا حِكمَةٌ
لَقَدindeed جُلَّHe is exalted عَنabove لَعِبٍplay أَوor عَبَثfutility
لَقَد جُلَّ عَن لَعِبٍ أَو عَبَث
And your creation by our Lord is wisdom;
He is indeed exalted above play or futility.
وَهَلand does يَحفِلُcare الجِسمُthe body فيin رَمسِهِits grave
وَهَل يَحفِلُ الجِسمُ في رَمسِهِ
إِذاwhen جاءَهُcomes to it حافِرٌa digger فَاِنتَبَثthen digs up
إِذا جاءَهُ حافِرٌ فَاِنتَبَث
And does the body in its grave care
when a digger comes to it and digs it up?
