If the falcon whose hunting grounds are distant is fortunate,
its sustenance reaches it while it is in the nest.

And had Tayy been ill-starred, Hatim would have been assigned
to another tribe, such as Taghlib or Bakr.
وَماand no أَمَدٌgoal فيin الدَهرِtime يُبلَغُis reached مَرَّةًever

And no goal ever attained in the course of time
lies beyond what a man has reached through thought.
كُلواeat طَيِّباًwholesome food فَالطيبُfor goodness فيماin what طَعِمتُمُyou ate

Eat wholesome food, for the goodness in what you eat
makes sincere gratitude manifest upon your lips.
وَقَدand already لاحَhas appeared شَيبٌgray hair فيon الذَراthe crowns of heads فَصَحَوتُمُso you sobered up

And gray hair has appeared upon your crowns, so you have sobered,
and it has become clear to you that youth is a kind of drunkenness.
فَلاso do not تَنسَوُواforget اللَهَGod الَّذيwho لَوif هُديتُمُyou were guided
إِلىto رُشدِكُمyour sound judgment مازالَwould always remain مِنكُمfrom you عَلىin ذِكرِremembrance
So do not forget God, who, were you guided
to sound judgment, would never leave your remembrance.
وَلاand do not تُنكِرواdeny حَقُّthe due of الكَبيرِthe Great One فَإِنَّهُfor indeed it
لَأَوجَبsurely more binding مِمّاthan what تَعرِفونَyou acknowledge مِنَof النُكرِwrongdoing
Nor deny the Great One's due, for it
is surely more binding than the wrongdoing you acknowledge.
