أَلِكنيcarry my message إِلىto مَنone who لَهُhe has حِكمَةٌwisdom
أَلِكنيcarry my message إِلَيهِto him أَلِكنيcarry my message أَلِكconvey a message
Carry my message to one who has wisdom.
Take me to one who has wisdom
Carry my message to him; carry my message—convey it.
Take me to him, take me, take
أَرىI see مَلَكاًan angel طانَهُfashioned him لِلحِمامِfor death
فَكَيفَso how يُوَقّىis protected بَطينُthe potbellied one المَلِكof the king
I see an angel fashioned for death;
I see an angel whose clay is for the doves
How, then, can the king's potbellied one be spared?
So how can the belly of the angel be patched
فَماso what ليwith me أَخافُI fear طَريقَthe path of الرَدىdeath
وَذَلِكَand that خَيرُthe best طَريقٍpath سُلِكwas trodden
Why, then, do I fear the path of death,
Why should I fear the path of rejection
When that is the best path that has been trodden?
When that is the best path taken
يُريحُكَrelieves you مِنfrom عيشَةٍa life مُرَّةٍbitter
وَمالٍand wealth أَضيعَwas squandered وَمالٍand wealth مُلِكwas possessed
It relieves you of a bitter life,
It would relieve you from a bitter living
And of wealth squandered, and wealth possessed.
And wealth that was squandered and wealth that was hoarded
