ذَكّوا عَلى مَذهَبِ الكوفِيِّ أَرضَكُمُ

ذَكّوا عَلى مَذهَبِ الكوفِيِّ أَرضَكُمُ

وَجانَبوا رَأيَهُ في مَسكَرٍ طُبَخا

وَجانَبوا رَأيَهُ في مَسكَرٍ طُبَخا

Purify your ground according to the Kufan school;

Purify your land according to the Kufan’s doctrine,

but shun its ruling on an intoxicating drink that has been boiled.

And shun his view on an intoxicant that has been cooked.

وَلا تَكُن هِبَةِ الخَلّاتِ عِندَكُمُ

وَلا تَكُن هِبَةِ الخَلّاتِ عِندَكُمُ

كَالغَيثِ وافَقَ في إِبّانِهِ السَبَخا

كَالغَيثِ وافَقَ في إِبّانِهِ السَبَخا

And let not the aid you give in times of need

And let the gift of good qualities among you not be

be like rain that, in its season, falls upon salt flats.

Like rain that, in its season, falls upon saline soil.
