تَلافَيناهُمُ بِالقَولِ فيهِ
فَجاءَهُمُso there came to them التَلافيthe remedy بِالتَلافِwith ruin
فَجاءَهُمُ التَلافي بِالتَلافِ
We sought to save them by speaking of it,
so the remedy brought them ruin.

Our created form was chosen, and evil is innate;
so we need not disagree about it.

And we have persisted in wicked dispositions,
as Quraysh held to their covenant.

Then who can bring you the Ghurayri she-camels that journeyed
with their like, traced back to ʿIlāf?
