سَمعي مُوَقَّىً سالِمٌ فَقُلِ

الصَوابَ وَلا تَصِح

My hearing is protected and sound, so say

what is right, and do not shout.

مِن قَبلِ يَومِ حَليمَةٍ

مِن قَبلِ يَومِ حَليمَةٍ

حَلِمَ الأَديمُ فَما يَصِح

حَلِمَ الأَديمُ فَما يَصِح

Since before the Day of Halima,

the hide has been mite-eaten and is unsound.

وَالمَرءُ في تَركيبِهِ

وَالمَرءُ في تَركيبِهِ

غَضَبٌ يَهيجُ إِذا نُصِحَ

غَضَبٌ يَهيجُ إِذا نُصِحَ

And man, in his makeup,

is anger that flares when he is advised.
