لاlet not يَفقِدَنever lack خَيرَكُمyour kindness مُجالِسُكُمyour companion
لا يَفقِدَن خَيرَكُم مُجالِسُكُم
وَلاand do not تَكونواbe كَأَنَّكُمas though you were سَبَخُbarren salt flats
وَلا تَكونوا كَأَنَّكُم سَبَخُ
Let your companion never lack your kindness.
Let not your gatherings lose their goodness
And do not be like barren salt flats,
And be not like leather dried out in the sun
وَلاnor كَقَومٍlike a people حَديثُtalk يَومِهِمُof their day
وَلا كَقَومٍ حَديثُ يَومِهِمُ
ماwhat أَكَلواthey ate أَمسَهُمtheir yesterday وَماand what طَبَخواthey cooked
ما أَكَلوا أَمسَهُم وَما طَبَخوا
Nor like people whose daily talk is
Nor like people with no history
What they ate yesterday and what they cooked.
Who yesterday ate naught, today cook nothing
