إِذاwhen قَضىdecrees اللَهُGod أَمراًa thing جاءَit comes مُبتَدِراًrushing forth
إِذا قَضى اللَهُ أَمراً جاءَ مُبتَدِراً
وَكُلُّand all ماthat أَنتَyou لاقيهِwill encounter it بِتَسبيبِthrough causation
وَكُلُّ ما أَنتَ لاقيهِ بِتَسبيبِ
When God decrees a thing, it comes rushing forth,
And all you encounter comes about through causes.
ظَلَّتshe kept مُلاحِيَةًreproaching فيabout الشَيءِthe thing تَفعَلُهُyou do it
ظَلَّت مُلاحِيَةً في الشَيءِ تَفعَلُهُ
جَهلاًin ignorance مُلاحِيَةٌa white grape مِنfrom بَعدِafter غِربيبِa jet-black grape
جَهلاً مُلاحِيَةٌ مِن بَعدِ غِربيبِ
She kept reproaching you for what you do,
In ignorance—a white grape after a jet-black one.
لَوif لَمnot يُصيبواthey obtain مُداماًwine مِنfrom غِراسِهِمُtheir plantings
لَو لَم يُصيبوا مُداماً مِن غِراسِهِمُ
لَجازَit would be possible أَنthat يُمطِروهاthey rain it down فيin الشَآبيبِthe showers
لَجازَ أَن يُمطِروها في الشَآبيبِ
If they obtained no wine from their plantings,
They could rain it down in showers;
وَلاِمتَرَتهاand would milk it وَخَيلُwhile the horses of القَومِthe people جائِلَةٌwheel about
وَلاِمتَرَتها وَخَيلُ القَومِ جائِلَةٌ
أَيديthe hands of الفَوارِسِthe horsemen مِنfrom صُمِّsolid الأَنابيبِspear-shafts
أَيدي الفَوارِسِ مِن صُمِّ الأَنابيبِ
And, while the people's horses wheeled, it would be milked
By horsemen's hands from solid spear-shafts.
