جَوزاءَJawzāʾ أَوor كَالشَمسِlike the sun لاnot تَلِدُgives birth
جَوزاءَ أَو كَالشَمسِ لا تَلِدُ
Be the Pleiades, or Ḥaḍār, or al-
Be the Pleiades, or Ḥaḍār, or al-
Jawzāʾ—or, like the sun, bear no children.
Jawzāʾ, or like the sun, which does not give birth.
فَلَتِلكَfor that indeed أَشرَفُnobler مِنthan مُؤَنِّثَةٍa woman who bears daughters
فَلَتِلكَ أَشرَفُ مِن مُؤَنِّثَةٍ
نَجَلَتshe bore children فَضاقَso became cramped بِنَسلِهاwith her offspring البَلَدُthe land
نَجَلَت فَضاقَ بِنَسلِها البَلَدُ
For such a one is nobler than a female
For that is surely nobler than a mother of daughters
who gave birth, until the land grew cramped with her offspring.
