Be content with a glimpse of the world, for she

is menstruating with every husband, with no state of purity.

Whenever you divorce her, you give a dowry; and if you add more,

then your soul, after debt and repose, is the dowry.

And you have never seen the earth's belly cast onto its back

men, as those on its back are cast into its belly.

The young man's sons surpassed the old man's sons in strength,

and the colt grows weak from weakness in its mature sire.

When we race with those who went before,

they go on, while breathlessness spreads through our chests.

    Time's firstborn enjoyed its might,

and we came in frailty after Time had grown senile.

If only a young man, like the full moon, had his life renewed,

returning as a crescent whenever the month is spent.
