مَنwhoever يَخضُبُdyes الشَعَراتِthe hairs يُحسَبُis deemed ظالِماًunjust
وَيُعَدُّand is reckoned أَخرَقَfoolish كَالظَليمِlike the male ostrich الخاضِبِred-legged
Whoever dyes his hairs is deemed unjust,
He who dyes his gray hairs is deemed unjust
And reckoned foolish, like the red-legged ostrich.
And is counted as ragged as a dark dye
وَالشَيبُand gray hair فيin لَونِthe color of الحُسامِthe sword فَلاso do not تَدَعleave
جَسَدَthe clotted mass of النَجيعِgore عَلىupon الحُسامِthe sword القاضِبِkeen-edged
And gray hair has the sword’s color, so do not leave
And grayness in the color of swords, do not leave
Clotted gore upon the keen-edged sword.
The body of the warrior on the cutting sword
عُمريmy life غَديرٌa pool كُلُّall أَنفاسيmy breaths بِهِwithin it

My life is a pool; all my breaths within it
My life is a pool, all my breaths in it
Are draughts that leave it drained, like yesterday.
Are draughts that leave it as yesterday's rain pool
