Whenever a living man benefits people, he suffers
harm at their hands, and death overtakes the soul.
فَماfor ... not تَسحَقِgrind المَروَflint وَالأَكُفُّand the hands وَلاnor الحَصىpebbles
وَلَكِنbut يُغاديvisits in the morning إِثمِدَantimony used as kohl العَينِof the eye ساحِقُa grinder
For hands grind neither flint nor pebbles,
but a grinder comes in the morning for the eye’s antimony.
فَإِنso if بورِكَis blessed الخَيرُthe good الَّذيwhich أَنتَyou صانِعٌdoing
فَأَهلٌthen deserved وَإِلّاand if not فَالخَطوبُthen calamities مَواحِقُannihilating
So if the good you do is blessed,
then that is deserved; otherwise, calamities annihilate.
