فَما هِيَ إِلّا سِلقَةٌ عارَضَت سِلقا
When a young man's wife lashes out in her speech,
she is merely a she-wolf confronting a male wolf.
وَأَحسَنُand the finest أَثوابِgarments of الأَوانِسِthe maidens بُردَةٌa mantle
وَأَحسَنُ أَثوابِ الأَوانِسِ بُردَةٌ

مِنَ الحُسنِ لا تُنضى لِغَسلٍ وَلا تُلقى
And the finest of maidens' garments is a mantle
of beauty, neither removed for washing nor cast aside.
وَيَفعَلُand does فِعلاًa deed سَيِّئاًevil رَبُّone possessing مَنظَرٍan appearance

And an evil deed may be done by one whose appearance is
beautiful, while one unpleasing in form does good.

And Umm Ghaylan is not forbidden to the fire,
nor is Umm Layla, within her prisons, lawful.
