The greatest weapon with which a man wards off his foe

is an appointed death deferred on the day of battle.

And many an armored warrior carries a keen-edged sword

to war, while the fates play and mock.

And your treasure in the dusty earth is inevitably lost,

but in the green sky it is guarded and stored.

    You boast, thinking yourself noble,

yet your going forth boasting is censure enough for you.

And human nobility is nothing but a gift,

driven along by the nights and subservient fate.
