O mistress of the secluded chamber, regard death as slumber,
O Lady of the tent, count me among the dead
For you are but one of Mudar’s graceful women.
For you are but one of the maidens of Mudar
طيبيbe at ease ضَميراًin heart بِأَمرٍabout a matter لاno مَحيدَescape لَهُfrom it
يَلقاهُmeet it بِالرَغمِagainst their will أَهلُthe people of البَدوِthe desert وَالحَضَرِand the towns
Be at peace in heart with what cannot be avoided:
Be content with an inescapable matter
Desert-dwellers and townsfolk meet it against their will.
Which the people of the deserts and towns must face
لَمnot تُكفَهُbe spared it الخُضرُthe Khudr مِنon account of لُؤمٍbaseness وَلاnor كَرَمٍnobility
وَلاnor تَجاوَزَdid it pass عَنover موسىMoses وَلاnor الخَضِرِal-Khidr
Neither baseness nor nobility spared the Khudr from it,
Neither greenness could spare him from blame or nobility
Nor did it pass over Moses or al-Khidr.
Nor did he transcend Moses or al-Khidr
لَوif كانَتِwere الريحُthe wind تَحتيbeneath me ماnot نَجَوتُI would escape بِهاon it
فَكَيفَhow then أَنجوcan I escape بِذاتِon one endowed with الشَدِّswift running وَالحُضُرِand galloping
Were the wind beneath me, I would not escape upon it;
If the wind were under my control, I would not have survived
How then can I escape on a mount that runs and gallops?
So how can I survive such firmness and resolve?
