    Turn away from the bull, its choicest morsels dyed

    with saffron, to a lump of dried curds.

    يا أَيُها الظَبِيُ رِد ياطائِرُ اِلتَقِطِ

    For sustenance cries: O humankind, work and eat;

    O gazelle, come to water; O bird, peck!

    And death is like a cloud whose downpour falls abundantly,

    and people are called upon—if calling ever availed.

    And it does not flow, but comes forth in drops,

    until it drowns the earth’s inhabitants with drops.

    فَإِنَّما نَحنُ في الدُنِّيا مِنَ السَقَطِ

    Alight as you wish, or fly for us, O raven;

    for we are but refuse in this world.
