عَلَيكَ بِتَقوى اللَهِ في كُلِّ مَشهَدٍ

عَلَيكَ بِتَقوى اللَهِ في كُلِّ مَشهَدٍ

فَلِلَّهِ ما أَذكى نَسيماً وَما أَبقى

فَلِلَّهِ ما أَذكى نَسيماً وَما أَبقى

Hold fast to reverence for God in every setting;

Be mindful of God in every scene,

for, by God, how fragrant its breeze, and how enduring!

For what is more fragrant or lasting than Him?

إِذا ما رَكِبتَ الحَزمَ مُستَبطِناً لَهُ

إِذا ما رَكِبتَ الحَزمَ مُستَبطِناً لَهُ

سَبَقتَ بِهِ مَن لا تَظِنُّ لَهُ سَبقا

سَبَقتَ بِهِ مَن لا تَظِنُّ لَهُ سَبقا

If you ride prudence, taking it to heart,

When you ride determination, making it your innermost,

you will thereby outstrip one you think cannot be surpassed.

You will outpace those you'd never expect to outdo.

وَحُبِّيَ لِلدُنيا كَحُبِّكَ خالِصٌ

وَحُبِّيَ لِلدُنيا كَحُبِّكَ خالِصٌ

وَفي عُنُقَينا مِن هَوىً جُعِلَت رِبقا

وَفي عُنُقَينا مِن هَوىً جُعِلَت رِبقا

And my love for this world, like yours, is unalloyed;

My love of this life is as pure as yours.

and around both our necks, nooses have been fashioned from desire.

Around both our necks desire has been made a noose.

حَذِرنا فَصادَتنا الخُلوبُ كَغَيرِنا

حَذِرنا فَصادَتنا الخُلوبُ كَغَيرِنا

وَأَيُّ غُرابٍ ما أَجادَت لَهُ طَبَقا

وَأَيُّ غُرابٍ ما أَجادَت لَهُ طَبَقا

We were wary, yet the beguiler snared us like others;

Beware, for minds have turned against us like others.

and for what raven has she not skillfully fashioned a trap?

What raven has not excelled in serving eaten scraps?
