شِفاءُthe cure ماwhat بِكَafflicts you أَعيانيhas baffled me وَأَعياكاand has baffled you

فَاِرجُso place your hope in الَّذيthe One who هُوَHe أَبدانيcreated me وَإِيّاكاand you
The cure for what ails you has baffled me and you alike.
So place your hope in Him who brought me and you into being.
ماwhat ليwith me أَراكاI see you غَبيّاًfoolish لَستَyou are not تَقدِرُable أَنto
تُحصيcount خُطاكَyour steps فَهَلthen can you تُحصيcount خَطاياكاyour sins
Why do I see you so foolish? You cannot
count your steps—can you count your sins?
وَكَيفَand how تَعجِزُare you incapable عَنof إِدراكِovertaking مُرتَحِلٍa traveler
وَاللَيلُand night وَالصُبحُand dawn كاناwere both مِنamong مَطاياكاyour mounts
And how can you fail to overtake a traveler,
when night and dawn have been among your mounts?
قَدindeed أَرذَياكَthey have both worn you out بِسَيرٍwith travel إِنif رَكِبتَهُماyou rode them both
وَلَمand was not يُصَيَّرreckoned بِحالٍin any way مِنamong رَزاياكاyour misfortunes
They have worn you down with travel, if you have ridden them,
yet this has in no way been counted among your misfortunes.
أَذَهَبتَyou let pass يَوماًa day فَلَمand did not تَعدُدهُcount it مَرزِيَةًa loss
وَعُدَّand was counted ذاهِبُlost مالٍwealth مِنamong رَزاياكاyour misfortunes
You let a day pass without counting it a loss,
yet lost wealth was counted among your misfortunes.
وَالعُمرُand life أَنفَسُmost precious ماwhat الإِنسانُa human being مُنفِقُهspends it
فَاِجعَلهُso devote it لِلَّهِto God تُحمَدyou will be praised فيfor سَجاياكاyour character traits
And life is the most precious thing a human spends;
so devote it to God, and you will be praised for your character.
وَاِغفِرand forgive لِعَبدِكَfor your servant ماwhat يَجنيهِhe commits it مِنof زَلَلٍerror
وَلاand do not تَأَيَّseek out بِسوءٍwith harm مِنwhoever تَأَيّاكاhas sought you out
And forgive your servant whatever errors he commits,
and do not seek to harm one who has sought you out.

مُعاشِرٌa companion بِأَبَيتَwith 'may you shun' اللَعنَthe curse حَيّاكاgreeted you
O king, not a breath of life has been shared with you
by a companion who greeted you, 'May you shun the curse!'
وَلاnor عَجوزٌan old woman مُكَنّاةٌbearing a byname وَغانِيَةٌand a beautiful young woman
كِلتاهُماboth of them فيin المَغانيthe dwellings مِنamong سَباياكاyour female captives
nor by an old woman with a byname, nor by a fair young woman—
both among your captives in the dwellings.
سُقيتَyou were given drink فيamid حَدَثانِthe vicissitudes of السِلمِpeace أَسقِيَةًwaterskins
فَقَدso indeed نَسيتَyou have forgotten لَذيذاًsomething delicious مِنof حُمَيّاكاyour heady wine
You were given skinsful to drink amid the vicissitudes of peace,
so you have forgotten the delight of your heady wine.
وَأَنتَand you بِاللَيلِby night تَسموrise الحادِثاتُcalamities إِلىtoward
سُهاكَyour Suha عَمداًdeliberately وَلاand do not تُخليleave untouched ثُرَيّاكَyour Pleiades
And as for you, by night calamities rise toward
your Suha deliberately, and do not spare your Pleiades.
