    We have natures that, we have found, reason commands,

    yet they desire none of the good qualities of character.

    وَإِن يَذِلَّ فَعَيرٌ آهِلٌ رُسِنا

    Your brother, if mighty, is a wild ass among his wild companions;

    and if humbled, a tame ass fitted with a halter.

    وَطالَ وَقتٌ فَأَمسى كُلُّها أَسِنا

    We are waters that have remained in their places;

    and time has stretched on until all have grown foul.

    Indeed, the nights have spoken, though they are silent:

    "How eloquent is Time—not he who claims eloquence!"

    Glory be to the Creator of these bright, ever-moving stars:

    they travel and journey by night, without weariness or drowsiness.

    رَبَّت جُسوماً وَفيها لِلعُيونِ سَنا

    And the sun floods the people of earth with benefits;

    it has nurtured bodies, and in it is radiance for the eyes.
