لَناours خَفضُlowliness المَحَلَّةِthe station وَالدَناياand base deeds
لَنا خَفضُ المَحَلَّةِ وَالدَنايا
وَلِلَّهِand God's المَكارِمُnoble qualities وَالعُلُوّand exaltation
وَلِلَّهِ المَكارِمُ وَالعُلُوّ
Ours are lowly station and base deeds;
and God's are noble qualities and exaltation.
إِذاif كانَis الهَوىpassion فيin النَفسِthe soul طَبعاًinnate
إِذا كانَ الهَوى في النَفسِ طَبعاً
فَلَيسَthen there is no بِغَيرِthrough anything other than ميتَتِهاits death سُلُوّforgetting passion
فَلَيسَ بِغَيرِ ميتَتِها سُلُوّ
If passion is innate in the soul,
there is no forgetting it except through the soul's death.
وَإِنand even if أَهَلَتbecome inhabited دِيارٌdwellings مِنby أُناسٍpeople
وَإِن أَهَلَت دِيارٌ مِن أُناسٍ
فَسَوفَthen … will يَمَسُّهاtouch them مِنهُمof them خُلُوُّemptiness
فَسَوفَ يَمَسُّها مِنهُم خُلُوُّ
And even if dwellings are inhabited by people,
they will be touched by the emptiness those people leave.
