My life after forty is death,

And finding forty’s sworn companion is loss.

So what is the matter with me, now that I have reached five decades?

Are there covenants between me and calamities?

As though we rode upon mounts made of days,

When the worn-out mounts are led, they themselves lead.

So the scorching heat in your time reveals that it harbors

Resentments in its entrails, and grudges.
