إِذا وَهَبَ اللَهُ لي نِعمَةً

إِذا وَهَبَ اللَهُ لي نِعمَةً

أَفَدتُ المَساكينَ مِمّا وَهَب

أَفَدتُ المَساكينَ مِمّا وَهَب

If God bestows a blessing on me,

I give the poor some of what He bestowed.

جَعَلتُ لَهُم عُشرَ سَقيِ الغَمامِ

جَعَلتُ لَهُم عُشرَ سَقيِ الغَمامِ

وَأَعطَيتُهُم رُبعَ عُشرِ الذَهَب

وَأَعطَيتُهُم رُبعَ عُشرِ الذَهَب

I allot them a tenth of what the clouds water,

and give them a quarter of a tenth of the gold.

وَإِلّا فَلَيسَ عَلى قادِحٍ

وَإِلّا فَلَيسَ عَلى قادِحٍ

إِذا ما كَبا الزَندُ دَفعُ اللَهَب

إِذا ما كَبا الزَندُ دَفعُ اللَهَب

Otherwise, no fire-striker is obliged,

when the fire-stick fails, to send forth flame.

وَلَو أُرسِلَت في المَهَبِّ الجَنوب

وَلَو أُرسِلَت في المَهَبِّ الجَنوب

لَما عَجَزَت عَن سُلوكِ المَهَبّ

لَما عَجَزَت عَن سُلوكِ المَهَبّ

And were the south wind sent along the wind’s course,

it would not fail to follow that course.
