أَكرِمHonor عَجوزَكَyour old mother إِنif كانَتshe was مُوَحَّدَةًa monotheist
أَكرِم عَجوزَكَ إِن كانَت مُوَحَّدَةً
عَلىin التَحَنُّفِadherence to Islam أَوor كانَتshe was بِزُنّارِwith a zunnar girdle
عَلى التَحَنُّفِ أَو كانَت بِزُنّارِ
Honor your old mother, whether she professes God's oneness,
following Islam, or wears a zunnar girdle.
نادَتcried out عَلىabout الدينِreligion فيin الآفاقِthe horizons طائِفَةًa sect
نادَت عَلى الدينِ في الآفاقِ طائِفَةً
ياO قَومُpeople مَنwho يَشتَريbuys ديناًa religion بِدينارِfor a dinar
يا قَومُ مَن يَشتَري ديناً بِدينارِ
A sect hawked religion across the horizons:
“O people, who will buy a religion for a dinar?”
جَنواthey committed كَبائِرَgrave offenses آثامٍof sin وَقَدand yet زَعَمواthey claimed
جَنوا كَبائِرَ آثامٍ وَقَد زَعَموا
أَنَّthat الصَغائِرَminor sins تُجنيbring about الخُلدَeternal dwelling فيin النارِthe Fire
أَنَّ الصَغائِرَ تُجني الخُلدَ في النارِ
They committed grave sins, yet claimed
that lesser sins bring eternal dwelling in the Fire.
