    It was not for your good deeds that your Lord gave you rain,

    Nor did evil deeds withhold rainclouds from you.

    Rather, these are only decrees set in order,

    Not tied to wrongdoing or good conduct.

    The proof of this is that the noble man lacks

    Sustenance, while another has gained wealth.

    Many a man staying at home has been favored with sustenance,

    While a traveler with horses and camels has been deprived.

    فَلَيسَ دُنياكُمُ أَهلاً لِآمالِ

    So place your hope in God, and hope for a good end from Him;

    For this world of yours is not worthy of hope.

    فَما لِأَفعالِكُم أَفعالُ إِهمالِ

    You believe that your God will recompense you;

    Then why are your deeds acts of neglect?
