فَاِحبُ الطُفَيلِيَّ تَأهيلاً وَتَرحيبا

If you have friends and a dining table,

If you're a friend with company and table

Then give the uninvited guest a friendly greeting and a warm welcome.

Then welcome Al Tufayli warmly with grace

لا تَلقَيَنهُ بِتَعبيسٍ لِتوحِشُهُ

لا تَلقَيَنهُ بِتَعبيسٍ لِتوحِشُهُ

فَالزادُ يَفنى وَلا يُبقي الأَصاحيبا

فَالزادُ يَفنى وَلا يُبقي الأَصاحيبا

Do not greet him with a scowl to make him feel unwelcome;

Don't meet him with a frown that would repel

For provisions run out and do not retain companions.

For food runs out but comrades still embrace

يَقفو اللَئيمُ كَريمَ القَومِ مُكتَسِباً

يَقفو اللَئيمُ كَريمَ القَومِ مُكتَسِباً

إِنَّ السَراحينَ يَتبَعنَ السَراحيبا

إِنَّ السَراحينَ يَتبَعنَ السَراحيبا

The base man follows the generous man of the people, seeking gain;

The wicked shadows nobles, hoping gain

Indeed, wolves follow the long-limbed steeds.

Just as the leeches follow blood to drain
