تَرومُyou seek شِفاءَa cure ماwhat الأَقوامُthe peoples فيهِin it
رُوَيدَكَtake it slowly إِنَّindeed داءَmalady القَومِthe people أَعياhas defied cure
You seek a cure for what afflicts the peoples.
You seek to heal what ails the people
Take it slowly: the people's malady has defied cure.
Curb your zeal, their malady defies healing
فَحاذِرso beware عَقرَباًa scorpion غَشِيَتكَhas assailed you لَسباًwith a sting
وَأُمَّand a mother of أَراقِمٍspotted vipers وافَتكَhas come to you سَعياrunning
So beware a scorpion that has come to sting you,
Beware a scorpion that in outrage may sting you
and a mother of spotted vipers that has come racing toward you.
Or a viper lurking to pounce
وَأَلقَتand imparted هَذِهِthese الأَيّامُdays عِلماًknowledge
إِلَيكَto you فَلَمyet did not تُصادِفُfind مِنكَfrom you وَعياunderstanding
And these days have imparted knowledge
These days have enlightened you
to you, yet found no understanding in you.
Yet you show no comprehension
وَدينُكَand your religion ماnot عَلَيَّincumbent on me الحُكمُjudgment فيهِconcerning it
فَأَبغِيَand thus act unjustly لِلَّذيfor what أَخفَيتَyou have concealed بَغياinjustice
And your religion is not for me to judge
Your faith is not mine to judge
and thereby wrong you for what you have concealed.
So I pardon what you hide in malice
إِذاif الإِنسانُa person كَفَّwithholds الشَرَّharm عَنّيfrom me
فَسُقياًthen may there be water فيin الحَياةِlife لَهُfor him وَرَعياand care
If a person refrains from harming me,
When a man spares me harm
then may he be watered and cared for throughout life.
Quenched and at peace through life he will be

And let him study, if he wishes, the Book of Moses,
He may study Moses' book
and inwardly cherish, if he likes, allegiance to Isaiah.
And cherish loyalty to Shu'ayb
