هُوَit is الرِزقُsustenance يُجريهِmakes it flow المَليكُthe Sovereign وَلَنand will never تَرىyou see
هُوَ الرِزقُ يُجريهِ المَليكُ وَلَن تَرى
أَخاa person possessing عيشَةٍa livelihood بِالحِرصِthrough greed يُطعَمُis fed أَوor يُسقىis given drink
أَخا عيشَةٍ بِالحِرصِ يُطعَمُ أَو يُسقى
It is provision—the Sovereign causes it to flow—and never will you see
It is sustenance that the Sovereign makes flow, and you will never see
a man of self-restraint fed or given drink through grasping greed.
a living person fed or given drink through greed.
وَكَمand how often أَمَرَenjoined العَقلُreason السَليمُsound بِصالِحٍto do what is right
وَكَم أَمَرَ العَقلُ السَليمُ بِصالِحٍ
فَماyet not فَعَلواthey did إِلّاexcept الخِيانَةَtreachery وَالفِسقاand sin
فَما فَعَلوا إِلّا الخِيانَةَ وَالفِسقا
How often sound reason has counseled what is good,
And how often sound reason has enjoined what is right,
yet they did nothing except betray and transgress.
yet they did nothing but commit treachery and sin.
