لَقَدindeed لَقِيَencountered المَرءُthe man مِنfrom دَهرِهِhis lifetime
لَقَد لَقِيَ المَرءُ مِن دَهرِهِ
عَجائِبَmarvels يُغلِثُهاmixes them together الغالِثُthe mingler
عَجائِبَ يُغلِثُها الغالِثُ
Indeed, a mortal has met, at the hands of Time,
Indeed, a man has encountered in his lifetime
wonders that the muddler himself jumbles up.
marvels that the mingler mixes together.
وَكَمand how often باتَspent the night ثانِيَsecond to عِرسٍa wife لَهُof his
وَكَم باتَ ثانِيَ عِرسٍ لَهُ
فَأَصبَحَthen by morning there was بَينَهُماbetween the two of them ثالِثُa third
فَأَصبَحَ بَينَهُما ثالِثُ
How often he has lain at night as his spouse’s second,
And how often he spent the night, one of two with his wife,
and by morning there was a third between them.
and by morning a third was between them.
