إِذا ما أَلحَدَت أُمَمٌ بِجَهلٍ

إِذا ما أَلحَدَت أُمَمٌ بِجَهلٍ

فَقابِلها بِتَوحيدِ السُيوفِ

فَقابِلها بِتَوحيدِ السُيوفِ

If nations, through ignorance, depart from faith,

If nations fall into unbelief through ignorance,

then fight them with swords made one.

then confront them with the monotheism of swords.

كَأَنّا في سَجايانا نُقودٌ

كَأَنّا في سَجايانا نُقودٌ

كَثيراتُ البَهارِجِ وَالزُيوفِ

كَثيراتُ البَهارِجِ وَالزُيوفِ

As though, in our inborn dispositions, we were coins—

It is as though, in our natures, we were coins,

so many of us debased, so many counterfeit.

abounding in counterfeits and debased pieces.

وَهَذي الأَرضُ لِلمَلِكِ المُرَجّى

وَهَذي الأَرضُ لِلمَلِكِ المُرَجّى

نُلِمُّ بِها كَإِلمامِ الضُيوفِ

نُلِمُّ بِها كَإِلمامِ الضُيوفِ

And this earth belongs to the king in whom hope is placed;

And this earth belongs to the king in whom hope is placed;

we stop upon it only as guests stop awhile.

we visit it as guests do.
