لَبيبٌa wise man إِلىin الدَهرِtime لاnot يَركُنُputs trust
لَبيبٌ إِلى الدَهرِ لا يَركُنُ
وَإِنقاذِيَand my saving النَفسَthe soul لاnot يُمكِنُis possible
وَإِنقاذِيَ النَفسَ لا يُمكِنُ
A wise man puts no trust in time.
A mind, through time, does not rest,
And I cannot save my soul.
And saving myself is not possible,
فَحَسبيso enough for me مِنَof المالِwealth قوتيmy sustenance بِهِwith it
فَحَسبي مِنَ المالِ قوتي بِهِ
وَحَسبيand enough for me مِنَof البَلَدِthe town المَسكَنُthe dwelling
وَحَسبي مِنَ البَلَدِ المَسكَنُ
So of wealth, I need only what sustains me,
So my livelihood is sustenance through wealth,
And of a town, I need only a dwelling.
And my home is a place to dwell.
