When the Rudaynian spears act unjustly, there rise against them

    distaffs bearing cotton and spindles.

They implore their Lord to destroy the gleaming swords and spears,

and each is held in check by God's power.

    فَمِنهُم مُجِدٌّ في النِفاقِ وَهازِلُ

    Ostentation is ingrained in the nature of Eve's children;

some practise hypocrisy earnestly, and others in jest.

They gave freely so people would say, 'They were generous,' and charged forward

so a champion facing his foe might be remembered in battle.

And Fartaj's gazelles have treacherously assailed you,

along with Khiffan's lions, which do not woo.

How strange, then, the sun that has no radiance,

and the full moon, whose night journey the lunar mansions have not borne!

Have swift horses, then, rejoiced in praise,

and those heavily laden, full-grown camels in acclaim?
