لِلمَوتِ عَنِّيَ فَأَجدِر أَن تَرى عَجَبا
If my mind accompanies the soul after its departure
To death, away from me—then you may well see a marvel.

And if it passes into the spacious air, perishing
As my body perishes in my dust—then, alas, what grief!

Religion is your fair treatment of all peoples;
And what faith has one who refuses a right when it is due?

And a man is wearied by guiding his soul at dawn
Toward good, though he leads a clamorous army.

And his fasting for the month, provided he commits no sin,
Suffices him instead of fasting Sha'ban or Rajab.

Yet in death I have followed the noble masters.

And beware a male ostrich's plea for his mate;
For many a supplicant's prayer pierces the veils.
