فَرُgains (word ends) إِلّاexcept بِزَلَّةٍwith a blunder مَسهِبوهُthose who speak at length about it
People have spoken at length, yet nothing is gained
People have gone on at length in talk, but gain
but a blunder by those who speak at length.
Nothing except by tripping into folly's ravine.
عَجَباًhow astonishing! لِلمَسيحِat Christ بَينَamong أُناسٍpeople
وَإِلىand to اللَهِGod والِدٍa father نَسَبوهُthey ascribed him
How strange the case of Christ among people
Wondrous is the Messiah amidst a people
who traced his lineage to God as his father!
Who trace his parentage back to the Divine!

The Christians handed him over to the Jews,
The Christians handed him over to the Jews,
and acknowledged that they crucified him.
And they all concurred that it was they who slew him.

لِthe child (word ends) إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle لِداتُهُhis peers ضَرَبوهُthey beat him
The prudent, discerning man pities a child
The wise and prudent man looks after the child,
when his peers beat him.
Lest when its mother bears it, they strike and hew him.

And if what they say about Jesus
If what they say of Jesus is indeed true,
is true, then where was his father?
Where was his father when it was done unto him?

أَمor يَظُنّونَthey think أَنَّهُمthat they غَلَبوهُthey overpowered him

How did he abandon his child to the enemies?
How did he leave his child to the enemies?
Or do they think they overpowered him?
Or did they think that they had overcome him?

And whenever you question the followers of a religion,
And if you ask the people of religion,
they alter by analogy what they have laid down.
They alter meanings according to what suits them.

They do not put their faith in reason, but
They follow imagination, not intellect,
in gilded falsehoods they have fabricated.
Giving credence to fabrications they eschew him.
