قَدindeed نَدِمناwe regretted عَلىover القَبيحِevil فَأَمسَيso [we] became (word continues)
قَد نَدِمنا عَلى القَبيحِ فَأَمسَي
ناwe (completes the preceding verb) عَلىover غَيرِother than قَهوَةٍwine نَتَنادَمwe are boon companions
نا عَلى غَيرِ قَهوَةٍ نَتَنادَم
We have regretted evil, and so now
We regret the ugly deeds, so we spend the evening
we are boon companions, though without wine.
Lamenting over coffee for what we've done
خالِقٌa Creator لاnot يُشَكُّis doubted فيهِin Him قَديمٌeternal
خالِقٌ لا يُشَكُّ فيهِ قَديمٌ
وَزَمانٌand time عَلىover الأَنامِhumankind تَقادَمhas grown old
وَزَمانٌ عَلى الأَنامِ تَقادَم
An eternal Creator, beyond doubt,
An undoubted, eternal Creator
and time that has grown old over humankind.
And time has advanced over mankind
جائِزٌpossible أَنthat يَكونَbe آدَمُAdam هَذاthis
جائِزٌ أَن يَكونَ آدَمُ هَذا
قَبلَهُbefore him آدَمٌan Adam عَلىon إِثرِthe heels of آدَمAdam
قَبلَهُ آدَمٌ عَلى إِثرِ آدَم
It is possible that this Adam
It's possible that this Adam
was preceded by Adam after Adam.
Came after another Adam, following Adam
خَدَمَserved اللَهَGod غَيرُناothers than us وَأَراناand I see us
خَدَمَ اللَهَ غَيرُنا وَأَرانا
أَهلَpeople of غَيٍّerror لِرَبِّناfor our Lord نَتَخادَمwe serve one another
أَهلَ غَيٍّ لِرَبِّنا نَتَخادَم
Others have served God; and I see us
Others served God before us, and He showed us
as people astray, serving one another for our Lord.
As wicked people to our Lord, quarreling
لَستُI do not أَنفيdeny عَنfrom قُدرَةِthe power of اللَهِGod أَشباforms (word continues)
لَستُ أَنفي عَن قُدرَةِ اللَهِ أَشبا
حَcompletion of the preceding word, 'forms' ضِياءٍlight بِغَيرِwithout لَحمٍflesh وَلاnor دَمblood
حَ ضِياءٍ بِغَيرِ لَحمٍ وَلا دَم
I do not deny God's power to create forms
I don't deny God's ability to create
of light, without flesh or blood.
Brilliant beings without flesh or blood
وَبَصيرُand the clear-sighted one الأَقوامِthe peoples مِثلِيَlike me أَعمىblind
وَبَصيرُ الأَقوامِ مِثلِيَ أَعمى
فَهَلِمّواso come, all of you فيin حِندِسٍpitch darkness نَتَصادَمwe collide with one another
فَهَلِمّوا في حِندِسٍ نَتَصادَم
And the clear-sighted one among peoples is blind, like me;
Yet the sight of people like me is blind
so come, let us collide with one another in pitch darkness.
Come in shrouds, let us collide
