تَبارَكَblessed be خالِقُهُits Creator ماwhat الغَرَضthe purpose
I see a substance in which an accident has settled.
I see essence in which qualities manifest
Blessed be its Creator—what is the purpose?
Blessed is its Creator, what is the purpose
إِذاif راضَhe trains فيin نُسُكٍdevotion قَلبَهُhis heart
غَداhe becomes وَهوَwhile he is صَعبٌunruly كَأَنas though لَمnot يُرضَbe tamed
If he trains his heart in devotion,
When He is pleased with devotion in his heart
He becomes unruly, as though never tamed.
He rises and it's as if he was never pleased
يُداوىis treated المَريضُthe sick person كَيماso that يَصِحَّhe may recover
وَهَلand is صِحَّةُhealth الجِسمِof the body إِلّاanything but مَرَضَsickness
The sick person is treated so that he may recover;
The sick are treated so they may become healthy
And is the body's health anything but sickness?
But is the health of the body anything but disease?
فَلاso do not تَترُكَنَّever abandon وَرَعاًpiety فيin الحَياةِlife
وَأَدِّand render إِلىto رَبِّكَyour Lord المُفتَرَضُwhat is enjoined
So never abandon piety in life,
So do not neglect piety in life
And render to your Lord what is enjoined.
And render to your Lord what is obligated
فَكَمfor many a مَلِكٍking شَيَّدَbuilt up المَكرُماتِnoble deeds
وَنالَand attained بِهاthrough them الصيتَrenown ثُمَّthen اِنقَرَضَperished
For many a king built up noble deeds,
How many kings built glorious monuments
And won renown through them, then perished.
And gained fame but then perished
