وَجَدتُ الشَرَّ يَنفَعُ كُلَّ حينٍ

وَجَدتُ الشَرَّ يَنفَعُ كُلَّ حينٍ

وَمِن نَفَعٍ بِهِ حُمِلَ الحُسامُ

وَمِن نَفَعٍ بِهِ حُمِلَ الحُسامُ

And I have found evil useful at all times.

I found evil useful at all times

And for the benefit gained through it, the sharp sword is borne.

And with its benefits the sword was carried

وَلَيسَ الخَيرُ في وَسعِ اللَيالي

وَلَيسَ الخَيرُ في وَسعِ اللَيالي

فَكَيفَ نَسومُها ما لا يُسامُ

فَكَيفَ نَسومُها ما لا يُسامُ

And goodness is not within the nights' power;

Goodness is not within the scope of nights

So how can we demand of them what cannot be demanded?

So how can we divide what cannot be shared

وَفي الحَيَوانِ شِركٌ بَينَ أَرضٍ

وَفي الحَيَوانِ شِركٌ بَينَ أَرضٍ

وَجَوٍّ سَوفَ يُدرِكُهُ اِنقِسامُ

وَجَوٍّ سَوفَ يُدرِكُهُ اِنقِسامُ

And in living beings there is a partnership between earth

In animals there's a partnership between

And air; division will one day overtake it.

Earth and sky that separation will eventually find

فِراقُ الروحِ هَذا الجِسمَ فيهِ

فِراقُ الروحِ هَذا الجِسمَ فيهِ

عَلى نَوعَيهِما نِعَمٌ جِسامُ

عَلى نَوعَيهِما نِعَمٌ جِسامُ

The spirit's parting from this body holds

The soul's departure from this body

Great blessings for both their kinds.

Is for both their kinds a corporeal blessing

وَما نَأَتِ القَرابَةُ مِن رِجالٍ

وَما نَأَتِ القَرابَةُ مِن رِجالٍ

أَبوهُم يافِثٌ وَأَبوكَ سامُ

أَبوهُم يافِثٌ وَأَبوكَ سامُ

Nor is your kinship with men remote

Kinship does not come from men

Whose father is Japheth, while your father is Shem.

Whose father is Japheth while yours is Shem
