أَرى الأَيّامَ تَفعَلُ كُلَّ نُكرٍ

أَرى الأَيّامَ تَفعَلُ كُلَّ نُكرٍ

فَما أَنا في العَجائِبِ مُستَزيدُ

فَما أَنا في العَجائِبِ مُستَزيدُ

I see the days commit every outrage;

I see the days doing every abomination

so I seek no further wonders.

Yet I'm not one to wonder anymore

أَلَيسَ قُرَيشُكُم قَتَلَت حُسَيناً

أَلَيسَ قُرَيشُكُم قَتَلَت حُسَيناً

وَصارَ عَلى خِلافَتِكُم يَزيدُ

وَصارَ عَلى خِلافَتِكُم يَزيدُ

Did not your Quraysh kill Husayn,

Did not your Quraysh tribe kill Hussein

and Yazid come to rule your caliphate?

And Yazid usurped the caliphate from you
