My appointed end is not at hand in Ajalā,

after I have tested the people of al-Jarīb.

    As though Eve, whose husband

is Adam, had never conceived a discerning person.

Our ignorant people have indeed grown numerous on earth,

and the wise, resolute man is a stranger among us.

And if there is rest in our death,

then the coming relief is close to us.

Is there, of ʿArīb or the people of Jurhum,

or Iram or the clan of Ṭasm, a single soul left?
